Advanced Liability Evaluation in Motor Vehicle Collisions at JRJ LAW

Car crash

At JRJ LAW, we are committed to the continuous professional development of our legal team. That is why we host an annual Continuing Legal Education (“CLE”) day, an event focused on honing the skills and knowledge essential to our practice. This year, a key focus area of our CLE program was the intricate process of liability evaluation in motor vehicle collisions.

Our investigation process goes beyond surface-level analysis, integrating various sources and techniques to construct a complete and accurate picture of the collision. The approach entails the following:

  • We thoroughly review police reports.
  • We review medical records inclusive of the ambulance call reports, emergency room record, and family doctor notes. These documents help confirm the timing and seriousness of personal injuries and confirm our client’s version of events.
  • We review the property damage file to assess collision dynamics and mechanics. These visual and structural analyses offer insights into vehicle speeds, angles of impact and any potential visibility obstructions that may have played a role.
  • We use novel ideas such as hiring a private investigator to cavass the area, speak with potential witnesses, and obtain any overlooked surveillance footage from surrounding homes, buildings, and businesses.
  • Google Earth Pro and dash cam analysis tools help digitally reconstruct the intersection. This helps maps sightlines and calculates approach angles and models traffic patterns.
  • Municipal traffic camera footage is used to reveal different angles to determine what accurately occurred in the motor vehicle collision.
  • A crucial step in our process is cross-referencing documentation from all available sources to verify the sequence of events and identify inconsistencies.
  • When necessary, expert accident reconstruction experts are hired to prepare a collision reconstruction report. This report offers an in-depth analysis of vehicle damage, scene measures, on-site evidence such as skid marks and debris, photographs, and video footage, and provides a conclusion.

JRJ LAW is dedicated to thoroughly looking at every detail needed to establish liability and advocate for our clients.

Our annual CLE reflects our legal team’s commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
