Know the Other Number: Every Second Counts

Police

We all know to dial 911 when there’s a life-threatening emergency. But what about the times when it’s not an emergency?

Every second counts in a true emergency, and tying up 911 lines with non-urgent calls can delay help for those who need it most. That’s why it’s crucial to know and use your local non-emergency number for situations that don’t require immediate police, fire, or medical response.

In Toronto, for example, the non-emergency police number is: 416-808-2222. Use this number for situations like:

  • Reporting a noise complaint
  • A non-urgent crime that has already happened (like a stolen bike or vandalism)
  • Suspicious activity that is not in progress
  • General inquiries or follow-ups with police

Make the Right Call

  • Emergency? Life in danger, crime in progress, serious accident, serious injury? → Call 911
  • Not an emergency? Suspicious activity, delayed report, general concern? → Call 416-808-2222

Save the number. Share it with your friends and family. Because when you know the right number to call, you help emergency responders focus on what matters most — saving lives.
