What Should You Do After a Car Accident in Ontario?

If you are involved in a car accident in Ontario, your first priority is safety. Stop your vehicle, turn on your hazard lights and check for injuries. Call 911 if anyone is injured.

If the collision is minor and no one is hurt, report the incident at a Collision Reporting Centre within 24 hours. Ensure that you do the following:

  1. Take photos;
  2. Note the road conditions;
  3. Note the weather conditions;
  4. Collect insurance information, driver’s licence and ownership information; and
  5. Collect information from any witnesses.

If someone is seriously injured, seek medical attention right away.

Furthermore, contact your insurer within 7 days after the accident. Ensure that you submit all evidence to the insurer inclusive of photos, police report, medical information.
