Bike Share Toronto Sees 30% Increase in Ridership Rates

In 2018, Bike Share Toronto saw over a 30% increase in ridership. Bike Share Toronto is a great way to get around the city, whether as a tourist or a local Torontonian. Biking is a cost-effective and enjoyable way to get around town while avoiding traffic, taxi/ Uber/ Lyft fares, and subway delays.

Bike Share Toronto is not a traditional bicycle rental option. It offers sturdy-framed bikes that are available at any docking station throughout the city. A bicycle can be picked up from any docking station in the city and returned to a completely different neighbourhood across town.

Currently, Bike Share Toronto has 360 bike stations and 3,750 bicycles all across the city.

There are various options to fit everyone’s bicycle needs. You can join as an Annual Member or buy a Single Trip, Day Pass, or 3-Day Pass. However, the first 30 minutes of each ride is included in the base price of the pass or with your membership. Extra usage fees apply after 30 minutes. To avoid overage fees, return the bicycle to any of the 360 bike stations every 30 minutes.

The phone application, Cyclefinder, enables riders to plan their route from start to finish. The app allows users to discover station locations, to check bicycle inventory, locate available docks, and receive ride codes in real time.

Bike Share Toronto offers Torontonians a cost-saving and time sensitive method of getting around the city. It also offers tourists an easy way to explore our city. Most importantly, Bike Share Toronto helps prevent carbon emissions and keep pollutants out of the air.

Ontario bicycle regulations also apply to Bike Share Toronto. Any users under 18 years old must wear a helmet while riding.

When cycling, riders must be mindful of safety. Please be mindful of the following tips for riding ssafely in the city:

  1. Obey all traffic signs and signals
  2. Yield to pedestrians
  3. Stay off sidewalks
  4. Never ride distracted
  5. Use hand signals
  6. Ride with traffic

Biking is not only great for your overall health, but it’s also great for the environment!
